About Us

About Our Farming Family

Welcome! I’m Rachel, the one in charge of the blog and all the writing you will see. John is my husband and is in charge of basically all the other farm operations. He manages the farm critters, the garden, and the meat processing. I handle all other aspects of homemaking and take care of the kiddos. He brings it in and I make it taste good! It’s a little agreement we have. 😉 We have three little boys and one little girl. We are Christians who long to honor our Lord in everything we do.

J&R Farms is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. We strive to live off the land just like our ancestors did. We love learning and utilizing skills that were common in rural Appalachia. John and I are both descendants of Townsend and Cades Cove, Tennessee and are raising our children to love family, farm, and history.

Interested in learning about the country life? You are in the right place! I can show you how to make soap and candles, and let you in on a few secrets about the simple life. Join my husband as he walks you through butchering a hog and planting a garden. I am fascinated with history; I have a whole section on biographies and old timey topics that I have researched. The blog has it all.

We love questions! Feel free to ask about what we do!

We are also contributors to “The Tennessee Farm Table, a weekly 30 minute podcast & radio show featuring the people of our Appalachian region who produce, prepare, and preserve our food and agricultural products.”
