A New Word for 2022: Saturated

It’s hard to believe it’s time to write another New Year’s post. I’ve had a little trouble finding time to write this, and that’s why I’m a few days late. (Ok…a whole week late. Sorry.)

But it’s ok.

Last year, I wrote about wanting to abound more and more in thankfulness, joy, love, and the goodness of the Lord.

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7

That was my “word” and my prayer for last year.

(You can go back and read it here.)

This year, I can only think of one word I want to use for 2022. And that word is

Saturated

As I was explaining this to my husband, I tried to think of other words that might sound better, maybe even more poetic. But SATURATED is what I want to use to get my point across.

It’s a very visual word.

What do you think of when you hear “saturated”?

First, I think of a sponge, or something just soaking wet, and when it’s even barely touched, it oozes out water. Or the ground after days of rain. When you step on it, water just comes out of every square inch.

That’s the visual I’m going for.

Saturated in the Word

This year, I want to spend so much time in the Bible that I am totally saturated in it.

What goes in will come flowing out.

“…for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” This is the tail end of Luke 6:45.

Ironically…and I should say, providentially, I started reading a new book last night.

I had this word in my mind since before the New Year. I had to let it simmer in my mind for a few weeks because I wanted to describe it just right.

All my thoughts were connected last night when I dove into “I’m That Girl” by Pearl and Serene of Trim Healthy Mama. (It’s not a cookbook.)

I don’t want to give away their plot of the book…but from staying up way too late reading the first few chapters, it was exactly what I had been thinking on! I couldn’t believe it! (You should probably go buy it for yourself because you will be immensely blessed!)

Saturated in the Word = produces fruit

Having an open Bible in my home

Reading it multiple times a day

Singing it

Memorizing it

Proclaiming it will naturally spill over.

That’s what I’m after this year. It’s to be so saturated with the Words of Jesus that it just comes spilling out naturally.

I want it to be evident to my husband and my children in how I respond to them.

And it’ll affect how I handle problems.

Likewise it’ll change everything! (In a good, good way.)
