Our First Bulk Food Order with Azure Standard

One of my goals for our family is to decrease our dependence on the big chain grocery stores. This has been a dream for a while now! Recently, we had our first opportunity to order bulk food from Azure Standard.

Of course, we grow all we can here on our farm. We raise all our own meat and most of our own vegetables, especially during garden season. Then we preserve what we can. But what about items such as oats, whole wheat flour, and baking powder?

After observing a few of my favorite homesteading accounts on Instagram and YouTube, I made a list, checked it twice, and decided to give Azure Standard a try. Was it worth it for this homesteading family of five?

What is Azure Standard?

Azure Standard is a company started by a family in Oregon that grows and distributes organic and quality food items, bulk included. This company is passionate about healthy products for families just like ours!

Please visit Azure’s website for their really cool history and impressive standards for their products.

This company sells everything from fresh produce, dairy products, seeds, cleaning supplies, bulk grains, spices, and whole lot more. Basically everything a homesteading family needs, if you ask me! (You definitely don’t need a farm to order, though.)

How Does Azure Work?

Here’s how Azure works in a nutshell:

All orders are placed online which is super convenient for this scatterbrained, busy mama! It was easy for me to navigate the menu to find what I wanted for my order.

You do not have to order in bulk amounts. They also have smaller amounts of products if that is what you need.

You will sign up on their website with a login and password and place your order through your account.

On your account, you will be asked to sign up for a drop location. Hopefully, there will be a drop in your area! All you have to do is click on the location, and you will be added. No sweat. If there are no drops in your area, they do require a $500 order minimum to get a drop started.

They will also deliver via mail…but I cannot explain this process because I have only participated in the free drops. 🙂

I emailed my drop coordinator with my questions before I even started ordering, because I wanted to make sure I had all my ducks in a row before I went through with my order. I like to have my questions answered before I spend the money, ya know?

There is a cutoff date each month for your order. As long as your order is placed before the cutoff, you’re good to go! You will get an email verifying your order, and a tentative delivery date.

You can change or add to your order until the cutoff date. This was helpful for me because I did want to add some more items!

Why Did We Choose Azure Standard?

Like I said before, it has been a long term goal of mine to get away from the big chain grocery store.

For our first Azure order, I planned ahead so I wouldn’t have to buy but only a few items for the month from the store.

(I’m still debating the situation as far as fresh fruit like bananas and kiwis go…let me know if you have a smart solution for this!)

I was so excited to be able to find affordable, healthy, bulk items that will make my life easier!

Making smart choices with my groceries is pretty important…I haven’t done the best in the past as far as budgeting goes. I just buy what we need usually. But doing this order made me sit down with a list and intentionally be more frugal.

How I Plan On Storing Bulk Foods

This may be another extensive post in the future, but for now I will tell you how I plan on storing these items!

It’s simple for me: I have around 20 half gallon glass jars. For example, my big bag of brown rice fit in two of these jars.

I’m a big fan of mason jars, and I have them everywhere. I also have ample shelf space so I have plenty of room!

Azure also sells storage buckets with special lids if I move up in my storage game and need larger containers.

What Other Products Can I Find From Azure?

Health & Beauty: Azure carries shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant…all the works you’ll find in your chain grocery store, but it’s all natural and a healthy alternative.

Household & Family: They sell everything from clothes, essential oils, and cleaning supplies! And so much more!

Nutritional Supplements of all kinds

Outdoor & Garden: I am so excited to place an order for their herbs and plants (coming soon) for our garden! I mentioned earlier that we already bought seeds. There is a variety of pet food and livestock feed as well.

This is just a sampling of all Azure has to offer.

Don’t forget to check with the sales and clearance page!

I forgot to mention earlier that with each order, you earn some Azure Cash to go toward your next order. Cool!

Will We Order From Azure a Second Time?

Yes we will!

I am very excited to see how we will be using Azure in the future! So far, I loved the process and honestly it felt like Christmas morning when I opened my boxes with all my goodies in it.

I hope I’ve cleared up most of your questions about Azure Standard. I’m sure how we order will change in the future as our family grows!

Ordering bulk, healthy foods is a new venture for us, but an exciting one! I’m eager to see how well it works for us.
